About the Li Lab

Research in our laboratory is primarily focused on pheromone communication and genomics. We strive to elucidate the chemical nature, neural substrate, physiological mechanism and behavioral response that enable pheromone communication. We also seek to edit genomes to understand their structure and function. A major impetus for these endeavors is to develop effective and environmentally benign methods to control sea lamprey, a jawless vertebrate that invaded the Laurentian Great Lakes, and the primary model species for our research.  Moreover, we attempt to infer the origin and evolution of olfaction and genome in vertebrate animals through comparative studies on lamprey and teleost species.
